La Clusaz summer activities

There is a long list of sporty activities such as; mountaineering, glacier trekking, aqua hiking, quad bike riding, archery, zip wires, parcours in the trees, luge and tennis. But the most popular activities are walking, mountain bike riding and paragliding.

If you aren't into taking part then why not just watch. Great events like the Tour de France, Reblechon festival and Belier race are not to be missed.

La Clusaz is also a fantastic base to explore the area. A visit to Annecy and it's lake is superb for the water sports or just for some sight seeing in the italianesque architecture. It's a favourite french holiday spot in August.

Most of the winter ski lifts (Beauregard, Patinoire, Cret du Merle, Le Loup and Etale) in La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand (La Rosay ad La Chat) are adapted to take mountain bikes in the summer (June - mid September), which can take you to various summits of up to 2000m. Perfect for starting a long ride and for focusing on your downhill technique. Walking in La Clusaz

Throughout the mountains and valleys there is a huge variety of pre-marked walking trails which take you through lush forests, green pastures and rocky mountainous terrain. These walks are graded according to length, which helps to plan your day-to-day itinerary, so you can walk as much or as little as you desire. We can also help you plan your routes by advising on their suitability, according to your ability and previous walking experience, as we have tackled many ourselves.

The famous 'Aravis-Tournette' and 'Belier' running/hiking trails are within 10 minutes walk of Chalet Fan La Bise, providing a good route to start or end your day. Most of the major ski lifts also operate in the summer months which allow you to begin you walk at higher altitudes without any uphill struggle.

We can provide well-marked maps so you don't get lost! And information concerning the many local walking routes.  more...

Paragliding -
take to the skies

This primarily summer sport, which began in the Haute Savoie in 1978, is extremely popular and the height of the Aravis chain and the warm climate provide an excellent location. Many of the sites are supplied by the winter ski lifts in La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand (2000m), so access is easy to the take off sites.

Whether you are an experienced 'glider' or beginner the locality offers facilities for all. Courses or single tandem rides can be booked through the local centres, with many of the ski instructors doubling up as paragliding instructors in the summer. It's a fantastic way to see the area from a different perspective and definitely a once in a life-time experience if you have never tried it before.

Other activities -
what to do?

La Clusaz offers loads of activities which will occupy you for a couple of hours or so. There are some familiar sports such as tennis, football, volleyball and mini golf or you could try your hand at archery or luge. The summer luge opens from June to september and provides a thrill as you zoom down the long windy track. Do it tandem or solo the choice is yours. The best bit is you get to ride back to the top in the cable car so you don't have to walk all the way back up to the top!

Whether you want to swim in the abundance of lakes or take to a proper pool, there is plenty on offer. La Clusaz boasts heated indoor and outdoor pools, with a flume. It offers stunning views of the snow covered pistes and lush mountains in winter and summer. The open air pool complex at Le Grand Bornand is open May to September and provides a relaxing way to spend a hot day.But if you fancy some fresh water swimming then the lakes at Annecy and Sallanches have sandy beaches and life guards in attendance in the peak summer months.
